Selma Sahin, MS

Resident in Counseling

I am a Resident in Counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Human Development and Family Studies from University of Connecticut and Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Texas State University. While working on my degrees, I also received trainings in Play Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Training, Theraplay®, and Animal-Assisted Counseling models.

I worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families both in individual and group counseling settings supporting them through anxiety, depression, adjustments and life transitions, grief and loss, and relational struggles. I significantly value forming a trust-based relationship in counseling to create a healing environment where compassion and kindness become healing agents to empower the client.

I work to understand the unique worlds of my clients to support their needs utilizing a variety of expressive tools that provide alternative forms of self-expression through art, music, activities, and playfulness. Coming from a culturally diverse background, I find it crucial to understand every individual’s background and story from their lens and collaborate on individually developed goals in the counseling process.
